What's on in the Winter
- Christmas Advent Markets. Festive markets at St Gilgen, Strobl and St. Wolfgang with boat trips connecting the towns across Lake Wolfgangsee which is dressed with a huge floating illuminated lantern and stars. Markets run from last week in November to December 23rd. Visit www.wolfgangseer-advent.at for further details.
- Flat and down hill skiing. St Gilgen provides the ideal base to access the eight local ski regions of snow assured slopes and langlauf tracks. There is a variety of skiing in and around St Gilgen and within 1 hrs reach is the famous Dachstein-West ski area at Gosau which links to Rubbach, Annaberg and St Martin.
- As well as fantastic local skiing, Planai at Schladming is only 1.5 hours drive away along good motorway roads.
- Snow reports on all ski areas broadcast at 7.30am on TV.
Other smaller resorts also offer modern facilities, well prepared slopes, bars and hostelries and provide great family skiing at reasonable prices and without the lift queues!

Skiing in St Gilgen
Access to the Zwölferhorn ski area in St Gilgen is via the gondola, situated 400m from the Tourist Information office. The daily rate is €17 and includes a full day ski pass. and Ski Pass Prices (PDF 119KB)
Skiing at the Postalm
There is a ski bus operating twice a day connecting St Gilgen to the Postalm Ski area. This service is free if you purchase a local area guest card available from the St Gilgen Tourist Information office, otherwise a small charge applies. There is also a more regular bus service operated by 'Postbus' (same charging rules as above), which runs from St Gilgen to Strobl where you can then connect with the free shuttle bus service running between St Wolfgang and Strobl to the Postalm and Dachstein-West Ski area in Gosau. Ski & Boot Hire
Ski's can be hired in the main Square in St. Gilgen, on the Postalm and at Gosau around the lower Hornspitz Express lift station
Access to the other wide number of ski resorts is possible by bus but by car offers a greater level of freedom. N.B. Local morning TV news reports will help you decide which resort offers the best snow for the day.
